Bad Hairday Monday . . . The Permullet!

If you were to ever find yourself at my mom and dad's house in my sister Tammy's old closet, I would probably walk up to you and say "Hey - what the heck are you doing at my mom and dad's house in Tammy's old closet?" But after we got that worked out, I would show you the drawers and drawers of old family pictures that we keep up there. We'd look through those pictures and laugh and laugh at all the old photos of me and my sisters. And you'd probably comment on how many bad hair days I've had in my lifetime. Regardless of the stage of my life, my hair has been consistently entertaining. Rockin' mullets, perms gone bad, and stunning bedhead . . . I've had it all. Naturally, I have an affinity for bad hair now so I thought I would use this blog to celebrate bad hair days. And what day of the week is more fitting for that than Mondays?

So welcome to the first Bad Hair Day Monday post!!!

I thought I would kick off our Bad Hair Day Mondays with pictures of my Permullet. What is a Permullet, you ask? It's a unique and rarely photographed permed mullet. And it's amazing. I had a mullet in 3rd grade and then I took it up a notch in 4th grade by getting that puppy permed. Here's my 4th grade picture . . .

I was proud of this hairdo. I think you can see that in my smile here - like a sort of quiet confidence. And why not? When you have a haircut that has an upper fro AND a lower fro, you are the owner of something pretty amazing. And you have to flaunt it. So, understandably, picture day in 4th grade was a big deal. I had my favorite pink plastic heart clip on, nestled perfectly in the upper fro, and I had JUST the right amount of earlobes peeking out. My lower fro was resting nicely on my back, showing off my poorly ironed collar. I looked at the camera man and smiled, quietly thinking to myself: "Eat your heart out Michael Bolton."

The quiet confidence displayed in this picture very shortly grew into a bold confidence and I began to work it . . .

Now when you add a pair of DECK shoes to a Permullet, there's no stopping you. A modeling career is imminent at that point and you have to take every opportunity to strike a pose. Especially if you find yourself near a spa. Speaking of modeling . . . Tammy's got something interesting going on with her shoes and socks back there in the background. She's not at all captivated by my photo shoot and that's probably because she's back there thinking "They ain't seen NOTHIN' yet. Wait till they get a load of my red socks and black shoes that are conveniently complemented by these tight crop pants I'm wearing."

Soon my confidence grew and I decided to throw off those deck shoes for a style that more appropriately fit my flamboyant hair . . .

Five! Six! Five, six seven eight!!

Can we talk about this picture for a second? First, the headband is priceless. It highlights the bi-level nature of the haircut in the most dramatic way, don't you think? Second, I've never had arches like that so I'm pretty sure that this picture was touched up and those feet are superimposed. Third, I'm pretty impressed with my abs in this picture - I just tried to recreate this pose and I'm pretty sure I got a hernia.

So I hope that this helped to kick off your Monday and start your week off on the right note. I also hope that you're not having a bad hairday yourself today but, if you are, take a moment to thank your lucky stars that you aren't sporting a Permullet. Or deck shoes. Or leg warmers. Take another good look in the mirror and remember that you've got a lot to be thankful for, my friend.

Your face looks like you're thinking "Take the picture, I can't hold this pose very long!"

So my sis-in-law (Alana) posted this blog on her facebook page. The moment that I saw that amazing mullet I knew this was something I had to check out.

My fav is the deck pose. You were one confident poser. Maybe we should start a pledge to get the permullet back in style. You'd be on the leading edge!

I can't believe I have been missing out on your blogs for a week. I could have been laughing everyday. I hope I have learned my lesson. shame, shame. My sisters did mullets, not me. So glad about that. When you come to MN we'll have to look at pictures and have a good laugh at them. :)

I love you with a mullet. I also love your ballet pose!!! You were workin it, girl! Hillarious! I think you should bring the perm back in style... not the mullet- just the perm. :)

OMG! Catherine, stop. Please. I am sitting in my office crying from laughing so hard. And I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing with you, because I, too, have had my fair share of bad hair days when I was younger (and as an adult). I'm just not brave enough to post them for the world to see. Great reading. Thank you!
